ScaleMP Computing solutions

ScaleMP is the leader in virtualization for in-memory high-end computing, providing higher performance and lower total cost of ownership as compared with traditional shared-memory systems. The company’s innovative Versatile SMP (vSMP) architecture aggregates multiple x86 systems into a single virtual x86 system, delivering an industry-standard, high-end shared-memory computer. Using software to replace custom hardware and components, ScaleMP offers a new, revolutionary computing paradigm. vSMP Foundation is a software-only solution that reduces overall system (CAPEX) and management complexities (OPEX) costs. vSMP Foundation aggregates up to 128 x86 systems to create a single system with up to 32,768 cpus and up to 256 TB of shared memory.

With installations in more than 30 countries around the world, solutions based on vSMP Foundation provide superior performance for database, analytics and simulation applications in commercial, government and public sectors. These solutions conserve the advantages of the traditional shared-memory systems operating model (ease of installation and management as well as large memory), while leveraging the cost structure of x86-based servers and providing access to a broad applications portfolio.

The vSMP Foundation product suite aggregates multiple, industry-standard, x86 servers into one single virtual high-end system. Depending on workload requirements, either all the memory can be aggregated, or all of the CPUs, memory, and I/O can be aggregated. We call this “selective scaling”, as the system can respond to the organizations workload. This product provides customers with an alternative to traditional, expensive multiprocessing (SMP or NUMA) systems and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single operating system. vSMP Foundation provides two aggregation modes:

Memory Expansion

This mode is designed for applications requiring a large memory footprint, but that are not CPU demanding. It enables users and system administrators to address larger RAM amounts for analytics and big-data applications. With all-in-memory computing it provides applications with a performance boost with license-cost protection. vSMP Foundation perpetual licensing pricing starts at $11,200 per TB of RAM. It is also available on an annual subscription basis starting at $6,720 per TB of RAM.

MEMORY EXPANSION AT A GLANCE

  • Utilize processing power of single system with up to 256 TB RAM aggregated from multiple servers
  • Perfect solution for in-memory databases providing accelerated performance compared to flash
  • License saving with fewer active sockets
  • Available also as free download with community support

System Expansion

This mode is designed for compute intensive applications or for administrators looking to benefit from server consolidation. All of the CPUs, memory and I/O can be aggregated into one system. It provides customers with an alternative to traditional, expensive multiprocessing (SMP or NUMA) systems and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single OS. vSMP Foundation perpetual licensing pricing starts at $400 per socket. It is also available on an annual subscription basis starting at $240 per socket.
